We’re lighting up screens and hearts with the ancestral skill of fire crafting, delivered straight into your living space. Ready your flint and gather your kindling for an online session where you’ll: - Explore the legacy of fire, from its ancient discovery to its indispensable role in human survival and culture. - Master the art of producing fire without modern tools, connecting with an elemental skill that has warmed generations. Together, we’ll: Explore various methods of fire-making, from the classic bow drill to the striking flint and steel, Rudiger roll and the modern ferro rod. Forage for the perfect natural tinder and kindling, uncovering the art of identifying and gathering the right materials. Delve into the anatomy of fire-building, understanding the roles of tinder, kindling, and fuel, and learning the tipi, log cabin, the dakota pit and the upside down methods for laying a fire. Share the love story of fire—from a spark to a flame, and from warmth to a life-giving force. For your adventure, please have on hand: A sharp bushcraft knife A small hatchet or axe for processing wood A piece of medium-sized dry branch to work with A collection of different-sized dry tinder materials such as grass, cattail heads, birch bark, cedar bark, and other seasoned twigs from your area Dry plant fibers Ferro rod, if you have one Small amount of wood ash 100% cotton balls Two flat pieces of wood, like 2x4s, around 18 inches long The more diverse your materials, the richer your experience will be. We'll guide you through each technique, ensuring you leave with the confidence to craft fire in the wild, just as our ancestors did.
