Karie Lee Knoke a wilderness skills expert, herbalist, energy healer and modern elder. Karie hails from a long line of pioneers. Her Great, Great, Great Grandfather was a scout for the Oregon Trail. Her family homesteaded in the Pacific NW Territories in 1839. That pioneering spirit stays with her today. Having had a lifetime of fulfilling experiences in the outdoors, from backpacking at six months old strapped to her father's back, growing up in a small town, playing in the woods, and making shelters, she always dreamed of someday walking off into the mountains with just a knife to survive. This all culminated in Karie recently being chosen to be on History Channel’s ALONE Season 9, which aired Summer of ‘22. Karie will never forget the experience of a lifetime and coming in 2nd Place after 75 days out in the wilderness in wet and freezing conditions in Labrador, Canada! Escaping the turmoil of the corporate world, Karie moved to an extraordinary place, Sandpoint, Idaho, where her chosen love for living in nature and her expertise collided. Following her passion and know-how today, Karie happily teaches wilderness and primitive living skills at gatherings worldwide. The founder of the Sacred Cedars Wilderness School, where she and other wilderness instructors will share their wisdom of the woods, is currently under construction. The school embarks on week-long immersion expeditions into the wilderness, where you can unplug from the mundane world and plug into nature’s landscape of magical wonder as well as single-day workshops. Learning to attune your senses, craft with buckskin, make awesome stuff from natural materials, fish, and forage for your dinner meals are just a few things that may touch your soul in this life-changing experience! Karie’s home is beyond off-grid, meaning she is not connected to anything except for nature. Her home is a 30' yurt deep in the woods, surrounded and supported by the natural world around her: water comes from the sky; warmth from the trees; she hunts and forages for food and medicine from the plants and wildlife; all "waste" is composted and returned to the forest to be recycled. She even built a gravity-fed, fire-heated bathhouse containing a shower and sauna! Karie’s other unique gifts are Energy Medicine work and her hand-crafted line of herbal remedies and flower essences. She will treat you with the utmost care and knowledge of what you might be going through physically, spiritually, or mentally. When Karie is not out adventuring, teaching or healing, she enjoys bushcraft projects like tanning hides, buckskin sewing and beading, primitive pottery, basketry, fire, and shelter making. Also an avid backpacker, who loves kayaking, snowboarding, and archery. Now inspired to write a book, The Art of Sacred Living, and have filmed herself along the way practicing this art.
